Mauritian Creole (Morisyen; kreol morisien) is a French-based creole language spoken on the island of Mauritius, located in the Indian Ocean, about 500 miles east of Madagascar. Creole is the lingua franca of Mauritius, but it does not have official status. It is essentially a basilect used to communicate between the owner and slaves. Mauritian Creole is one of ninety-three Creole and eleven French based Creole languages. It is heavily influenced by regional languages(e.g Bhojpuri ; French etc)
