The Yoruba language is spoken by about thirty million people spanning six states in the western parts of Nigeria. Yoruba is also spoken in the neighboring countries of the Republic of Benin and Togo.It is one of the six official languages of Nigeria.Although this member of the Benue Congo group of languages has about 20 distinct dialects, Standard Yoruba is recognized by speakers of all dialects and is used in education, literature, and the media.
