Meithei (Meitei, Meetei) or Manipuri or Meiteilon is the predominant language and lingua franca in the southeastern Himalayan state of Manipur, in northeastern India. Meiteiron (Manipuri) is the only scheduled Tibeto-Burman language of India, which has its own script known as Meitei/Meetei Mayek “Meitei script. There are many dialects Meithei proper, Loi and the Pangal (others include Kakching,Sekmai,Andro,Phayeng,Kwatha, Thanga) but Imphal dialect is considered as the standard dialect.
