The Nahuatl language (also called Classical Nahuatl, Mexicano or Aztec) is a member of the Aztec-Tanoan family on the Uto-Aztecan branch and linguistically described as agglutinating and poly-synthetic. Varieties of Nahuatl are spoken by an estimated 1.5 million Nahua peoples, most of whom live in central Mexico. All Nahuan languages are indigenous to Mesoamerica. Key dialects are based on certain states: Morelos, Tlaxcala, D.F., Veracruz, Guerrero or based on regions like the Huasteca or the Rio Balsa.
