Atayal belongs to the Formosan branch of Austronesian languages.Other language in this group includes Sediq. Atayal is spoken by the Atayal people in Taiwan.

Key Dialects : Squliq and C’uli’(Ts’ole’) . C’uli’(Ts’ole’) Atayal is more complex and heterogeneous than Squliq Atayal in phonological, morphological and syntactic features. Each of above is further sub-divided into various dialects. (e.g Jianshi; Mabalay; Wulai)
