Lingala is a Bantu language of the Benue-Congo branch of the Niger-Congo language family.

More than two million people speak lingala natively in Democratic Republic of the Congo, where it is the official language.Lingala is also spoken in the Central African Republic of the Congo by upwards of 100,000 speakers. The language is occasionally referred to as Ngala.

Main dialects are Mankanza, Mangala, Bangala, urban Lingala.
