Tiv is a Southern Bantoid Tivoid language of the Benue-Congo branch of the Niger-Congo phylum. Majority of its speakers are in Benue State, spreading across Taraba, Nassarawa and Plateau States of Nigeria.

The Tiv is the only language in Nigeria that is without any significant dialectical variations. Dialects only vary as per different accents (e.g Ukum, Nongov, Masev ).
